survey says...

Devin took a survey in one of his classes to see what his communication style is.  He had me take it (only five questions) to see what mine style is, and it's pretty amusing how "right on" the results are.  See if you can guess which style is for which person!

Style one:
  • neat, orderly desk; puts things away when leaving for the day
  • tends to straighten out and organize things (straightens a slightly crooked picture without thinking about it)
  • very precise in terminology
  • when providing background information, will go into considerable detail
  • very penetrating, specific questions
  • frequent use of words like "what options do we have?" "let's go over it step-by-step"; "precisely when will it be ready?"
Reaction to the other style:
  • overreacting
  • overpersonalize issues
  • too casual
  • subjective
  • manipulative
Style two
  • close eye contact
  • will often physically touch others in making points (tap shoulder or arm, for example)
  • will often have several photographs of family, friends, and associates displayed in the office
  • sits next to another person rather than behind the desk
  • often volunteers motives for the actions of others
  • will use your name in a course of discussion
  • will often raise questions regarding the responses of others
  • tends to use words and expressions like "the way I feel about it is", "who else is using the program?"; "How does he like it?"
Reaction to other style:
  • cold
  • unemotional
  • insensitive
  • not emphatic
  • overreliance on hard facts
